Inventory management has always been a tedious, time-consuming task that workers dread. But for David Greschler, CEO and Co-founder of Nomad Go, this was precisely the problem that presented an opportunity. By revolutionizing the way inventory is counted, Greschler is not only saving businesses time but also making lives easier for those who handle this burdensome task.

The Struggles of Counting Inventory

David Greschler’s journey begins with recognizing a universal pain point: everyone hates counting inventory. “It takes too long, like hours, it’s highly inaccurate because you’re being asked to do it after you’ve worked hard all day,” Greschler says. Traditional inventory processes are not only time consuming but are also riddled with inaccuracies due to the manual nature of the task. Restaurant managers, for example, often have to stay late at night after closing or arrive early in the morning to manually count their stock. This process is far from efficient, leading to mistakes and even financial losses for businesses.

With Nomad Go, Greschler sought to eliminate these frustrations by using technology that simplifies inventory tracking. “That kind of pain, the time, the inaccuracy, we’ve just gotten rid of all that,” Greschler explains. His solution? A smartphone or tablet that scans the shelves and counts items in real time.

David Greschler’s Journey to Nomad Go

The idea for Nomad Go didn’t start with inventory management. Initially, Greschler and his Co-founder Jonah Friedl were focused on using iPads in other industries. However, their technology began to evolve as they recognized the need for more efficient inventory solutions. Greschler quickly realized the impact this innovation could have in industries like quick service restaurants (QSR) where inventory is crucial to operations.

Reflecting on the long journey, Greschler humorously states, “We’ve been counting inventory since the dawn of time… And up until Nomad Go, they’ve been using their fingers.” This insight paved the way for what Greschler calls “the next generation of the barcode”—a technology that’s ten times faster and significantly more accurate than manual counting

Revolutionizing the Industry

What makes Nomad Go different from other solutions? Greschler emphasizes that while other technologies may recognize items, Nomad Go takes it a step further by counting the number of items in real time. “We don’t just recognize an item like a certain kind of ketchup, but we can magically actually count how many in a row,” he explains. This not only saves time but also provides unprecedented accuracy, up to 99%.”

Greschler’s team has managed to create an integrated ecosystem that’s as simple as waving a tablet or phone across the shelves. This system maps inventory in 3D, calculates capacity, and sends the data directly to back-office systems. In industries where time is of the essence, such as restaurants and grocery stores, this kind of efficiency is revolutionary.

Making Lives Easier

But it’s not just about efficiency; it’s about improving lives. For Greschler, this is what truly motivates him. “We’re making the lives of people who work in restaurants just better,” he says. He recounts a story about a store manager who, after using Nomad Go, immediately wanted to implement it company wide. The reason? It saved her from waking up at 4 a.m. to count inventory. “I could get more sleep,” she told him, a sentiment that resonated with Greschler.

For Greschler, making technology that improves the quality of life for others is the ultimate reward. “That’s what motivates a lot of us at this company, just improving people’s lives,” he shares.

In an industry where time is money and efficiency is key, Greschler’s Nomad Go is not only changing the way businesses operate but also positively impacting the lives of those who work behind the scenes. What once was a dreaded task is now streamlined and even enjoyable, thanks to the innovative use of AI and computer vision technology. As Greschler puts it, people go from hating inventory to actually thinking of it “as a video game”

Nomad Go represents more than just a technological advancement—it’s a glimpse into the future of how businesses will operate, making life easier for everyone involved.
