In the fast-paced world of hospitality, Christin Marvin’s story stands out as one of profound transformation, resilience, and reinvention. As the author of The Hospitality Leader’s Roadmap: Move from Ordinary to Extraordinary and host of the The No Hesitations Restaurant Leadership Podcast, Marvin has not only reshaped her career but also her life, proving that there’s nothing she can’t do when passion and purpose align.

Beginning Her Career

Marvin’s journey wasn’t always this clear. Early in her career, she threw herself into the fast-paced restaurant world, where she quickly became immersed in the industry’s culture. Starting as a young, introvert from the Midwest, she found that working in hospitality brought out an unexpected extroverted side of her personality. She loved the camaraderie of late-night shifts, the team atmosphere, and the thrill of working in high-energy environments. However, the darker side of the industry—heavy drinking and partying—became a routine part of her life. “I was 19 when I first discovered alcohol in the restaurant business,” she recalls. “You’d party with your coworkers after shifts, and it just became the norm.”

As she transitioned from independent restaurants to chain operations, Marvin’s once-strong passion for hospitality began to fade. The larger corporate settings limited her creativity, and her role became more about hitting key performance indicators than fostering authentic leadership. Unhappy and burnt out, she found herself relying more on alcohol to cope with the mounting stress. “It wasn’t the alcohol,” she reflects. “It could have been anything. The problem was I was really unhappy and wasn’t tapping into my values and purpose.” This combination of unfulfillment and a growing dependence on alcohol set the stage for a pivotal turning point in her life.

A Life Changing Moment

Her turning point came during a moment of self-realization after a vacation with her husband, Tyler. “We came home from vacation one day, and I looked at myself in the mirror. I was completely disgusted. I didn’t recognize myself anymore,” she shares. That pivotal moment, coupled with her husband’s alcohol-related seizure, spurred them both into a journey of sobriety and transformation. Together, they sold their dream house, relocated to a new city, and began rebuilding their lives—this time with clarity and intention.

Marvin’s new path has allowed her to embrace her passion for leadership and helping others. After investing deeply in her own personal development—through coaching and studying concepts like positive intelligence—she launched her business, Solutions by Christin, two years ago. Her mission? To provide leadership development resources for others in the industry, who may also feel the same burnout she once experienced.

The New Book

Her book The Hospitality Leader’s Roadmap: Move from Ordinary to Extraordinary touches not only on her personal struggles but also on the darker sides of the hospitality industry, such as the culture of drugs and alcohol. By sharing these stories, she hopes to open up dialogue and provide solutions for others who are ready to change.

As Marvin notes, “Through coaching and learning about saboteurs, I discovered the power of self-awareness. Once I realized what was standing in my way, everything changed for me. And that’s what I aim to teach others—how to find their own path to fulfillment in this industry.”

Throughout this entire process, Marvin credits her husband, Tyler, as her greatest supporter. In fact, she dedicated her book to him, an emotional reveal she hadn’t shared with him until the book arrived in the mail. “He just lost it,” Marvin says, describing the moment he saw the dedication.

She goes on to explain how critical having a supportive partner is for any entrepreneur: “It means the world to have somebody by your side that supports you 110% through the good days and the bad days.” Whether it’s financial support or emotional backing, Tyler’s role in her life has been pivotal in Marvin’s success and reinvention.

The Best Is Yet To Come

With her new ventures well underway, Marvin is more energized than ever. Her podcast, No Hesitations, gives her the chance to build community and empower others in the industry, with a focus on leadership development, the non-alcoholic movement, and mindset. “There is nothing I can’t do,” she says. “I’ve been having so much fun in this creative space, reinventing myself, and hearing from people who love the show or took something valuable away from it.”

For Marvin, the future is wide open. Every new project and creative endeavor is a chance to reflect on what’s next. “Every time I do something fun and exciting, I just sit back and go, okay, what’s next? How am I going to reinvent myself?”
