Essential Podcast Equipment When Getting Started

OK – so you want to start a podcast of your own but have no clue what equipment you need to get started. NO WORRIES! Let me help you out.
Below is the list of items that we started out with on our podcast. Please keep in mind that everyone’s setup is different as there are MANY different ways that you can podcast.
- Zoom H6 Six-Track Portable Recorder – I like how simple this recorder is to use! Great quality, simple user-friendly interface that is good for any beginner.
- SanDisk 64GB Ultra Memory Card – 64GB has been PLENTY of space for podcasting. Each epsiode (for us) weighs in around 1GB. Have a plan to format your SD card and keep your previous recordings stored safely in a hard drive.
- Shure SM58-LC Dynamic Vocal Microphone – A great microphone. Keep in mind that you can choose any microphone that fits your budget.
- Shure SM58-LC Dynamic Vocal Microphone Bundle Pack with Three Mics, Gearlux Mic Bag, XLR Cables – This is a great bundle if you plan on having a co-host or multiple guests at one time. Note that there are different bundle options – pick which one works best for you.
- Female to Male XLR Microphone Cable – Unless you go with the bundle pack (above), you will need one microphone cable (Female to Male) per microphone. Choose which length is optimal for your setup.
- Microphone Stand – These work great if you plan to record at a desk/table – they are adjustable as well.
- Audio-Technica Professional Monitor Headphones – Best bang for your buck in my opinion. Keep in mind that you can choose any headphones that fit your budget.
- Dragonpad Pop Filter – Improves audio on recordings. Even though Joe Rogan thinks they’re obnoxious, I think they’re nice to have.
- Pelican 1510 Case – Protect your podcast equipment when traveling with a carrying case. I highly recommend any case by Pelican.
